Benthic
Macroinvertebrates(BMI) are visible water bugs you can use to tell how healthy
water is. There are different types of what bugs that mean different things
for water quality tests. There are bugs that can hardly stand any pollution.
There other bugs that can take a little more yet still die to most and any
pollutants. There are BMI that can stand amounts of pollution but can’t
take huge amounts. There are yet others that can take in huge amounts of pollutants
and even feed on them. Every bug shows you a different amount of water quality
fitted into its own category.
What the BMI team Does
The BMI team has to sift through water and look for bugs, when we find bugs we identify them to see if they are very intolerant, intolerant, tolerant, or very tolerant BMI. Through the category they are in we can score the water we are testing.
