Our seismologist noticed that there were Earthquakes all around the edges of our plate. There were also earthquakes between the plates.

We thought that the volcanoes were being caused by the tension and compression in our plate. We thought that tension helped cause them because the plate was pulling away from the other plates and let magma through. We thought that compression helped cause them because the plate was pushing against another plate and going up and over it making room for magma to come through.

Our studies have shown that all of this is true.
