Earthquakes

Earthquakes are caused by different things.One way is a strike slip fault, when a plate slips with another the force causes energy to rise to the suface and then goes spreads out from the epicenter.theese are some of the thing that alter the earth's crust.

 

 

This picture shows three types of faults.The first one shows expantion, this stretches out the crust making it thiner.The second one is compression, this is where land is squished causing the crust to get thicker.The last one is a strike slip fault, this causes earthquakes because the tension of the plates rubbing together gets released when the earth breaks.

 

 

 

 

 

There are three different kinds of energy waves, P waves and S waves.P waves are primary waves and reach the area around the epicenter first. S waves are secondary and reach the area around the epicenter last.P waves go faster because they move back and fort in straight lines.S waves go slower because they go in a wavey up and down motion. There is also surface waves, surface waves move more slowly then p waves and s waves but they can produce severe ground movements.
