Density and Isostasy

Our class noticed that the density of the mantle is just like the rock type peridotite. Also the density of the continent is just like granite and the ocean floor density is just like basalt. We think that peridotite is like the mantle because peridotite has the most density out of the rocks, and the mantle is the most dense out of the ocean floor, and the continents. We think that the ocean floor is just like basalt because it is the second most dense out of the three types. We think that the density of the continent is just like granite because it is the least dense out of all and the continents are above the ocean floor and mantle.

When we were studying density, we had density cubes to weigh and measure. This is what they looked like:

each of the cubes had a different density. It was our jobs to figure out which one had the most density, which helped us in a lesson later on.
