Density

Density is what determins wsomething sinks or floats. That is why the boat floats because the density is lower than the water, waters density is 1.0 so if something has a bigger density it will sink if it has a smaller density. That is why the the continets are higher that the ocean because of what it is made out of the ocean floor is made out of basalt, and the continents are made out of granite and basalt is more dense than granite. That is why the ocean is lower than the continents. We did a lab on density cubes.

Isostasy is a simulator where you can change the density of the object or you can change the density of the liquid. We used isostasy simulator to study density and change it to study the continents and the ocean floor.

Durring our project we had to measure the 3 cubes we learned how to measure density and then we did a lab on the density of rocks, and we learned how to measure the density of those and
our results were:
Basalt:2,448 g/cm
Granite:2.12 g/cm
peridotite: 2.84 g/cm
this helped us figure out why the contenents are higher than the ocean floor because of the rocks density.
