South American Plate
Scientist believe that in 50 million years the Atlantic Ocean will be much larger and the Pacific Ocean will be much smaller. North and South America will move farther west. Alfred wegener once suggested that there once was a giant continent called Pangaea.
We beleve the South American plate is moving west, because of geochronology maps. In the 1950's scientist discoverd how to measure paleomagnetic which could tell the directions and latitude of geomagnetic.

The Earth is producing new crust when two plates are diverging or spreading apart. The earth is a dynamic or constantly changing planet. Plates are in constant motion causing earthquakes mountain building, volcanoes, and new crust.
