Rules

Hands:  In soccer it is an everything but your hands and arms game.  The only player who can use their hands is the goalie.  If  someone hits the ball with their hands or arms during a play, and the ref sees it, the other team gets a penalty kick if it happens in the penalty box, but if it happens elsewhere, it is called a free kick.

Penalty Kick/Free Kick:  A penalty kick is when one player from the opposite team the penalty was called on get possession of the ball.  The ref will place the ball where it is to be kicked from, or show the player where to kick from.  There are two types of penalty kicks, indirect and direct.  Since a penalty kick is in the penalty box, it is  usually a shot on goal.  If it is a direct kick, it doesn't have to touch anyone before it goes into the goal.  If it is an indirect kick, it has to touch someone else before it goes into the goal for it to count.

Offsides:  This occurs when a player doesn't have two things between them and the goal when they are going toward the goal they are trying to score.

                     off-sides                      onsides

They are not offsides if they are on their own side of the field.  Also, if the ball is passed and the ball is between them and the goal before they receive it, they can run up to get the ball if there is also a defender and the goalie between them and the goal.

Throw-Ins:  When you throw the ball in, it is after someone on the other team kicks the ball out of the sidelines.  Both of your feet have to be in the ground, and it has to be thrown with both hands strait over your head.  If both your feet aren't on the ground when you throw the ball, or you don't throw it strait over you head, the other team gets to throw the ball on the same spot you just did.

Goalie:  The goalie is the only player on the field who can pick up the ball in the middle of a play, but only if it is in the penalty box.  They then have to choice to throw the ball to one of their team mates, or punt the ball out onto the field.  If the goalie has his/her hands on the ball, the opposing team is supposed to back away, or at least they aren't supposed to touch the goalie.

Kick-Off:  A kick-off happens at the beginning of the game or after someone scores a goal.  To win kick-off at the beginning of the game, the team captains will go to the center of the field or where the ref is.  The home team will call heads or tails while the coin is in the air, and whoever wins gets kick-off.  After a goal is scored, the opposite team that scored gets kick-off.  The team who has kick-off stands behind the ball (that is on the center line) and kicks it across the line to another team member.

Goal Kicks:  A goal kick happens when the ball is kicked out of bounds on the end of the field by the team going towards that goal.  Any one can kick a goal kick, but it is always good for the goalie or one of the defenders to stand in the goal while their team mate kicks the ball.  The ball has to be out of the penalty box before the team going towards that goal can even touch it.  The team whose goal it is can go in and get it though if it doesn't clear the box. It can be kicked from anywhere on the line of the goal box.

Corner Kick:  A corner kick is where the defending team will deflect it out over the end line, the one they're defending.  This results in the other team getting the ball at the nearest corner of the field.  They then kick it in.  They can kick the ball anywhere, and there are many different strategies.
