the gravitation pull on the fault blocks involed. The fault plane on the normal fault is gren erally very steep.

Over millions of years, fault move ment can change a fault plin into a towering mountain range.
When normal faults aplifta a block of rock, a fault-block mountain forms. Where two plates move away from each other, tension forces creat many normal faults. When two of these normal faults from parllel to each other, a block of rock is left lying between them. As the hanging wall of each normal fault slip downward, the block in between moves upward. When a block of rock lying between two normal faults slides downward, a valley forms.
Earthquake producewaves that carry energy as they travel out ward through solid material. During an earthquakc, sesimic waves race out directions. Sesimic waves are uibrations that travel through Earth carrying the energy released during an earthquakc.
